Attempts at curriculum reform are likely to be futile unless accompanied by matching assessment reform. To establish an assessment system that helps student develop in all-round way is one of the bases of assessment reform. Based on the multiple intelligence theory, the constructivism learning theory and the post-modernism theory, the thesis discusses the meanings, characteristics and functions of the developmental student assessment in physics education(DSAPE). Based on the reality of physics education in the middle school, we bring forward the goals, contents, procedures, principles, and methods of the DSAPE. A preliminary research is done by the educational experiments. The thesis is composed of six parts. In the foreword, the background of DSAPE is introduced briefly. The research actualities of home and abroad on DSAPE are also mentioned. In the second chapter, the history of eduacation evaluation is reviewed, and the meanings, characteristics and functions of DSAPE are discussed. In the third chapter, the theoretical foundations of DSAPE are interpreted through the multiple intelligence theory, the constructivism learning theory and the post-modernism theory. In the forth chapter, the goals, contents, procedures and four principles of DSAPE are discussed. In the fifth chapter, three assessment methods are brought forward based on the characteristics of physics curriculum. They are the bedded-in-teaching processes assessment, the portfolio assessment and the performance assessment of physics problem research. In the sixth charpter, the practices of DSAPE are discussed. The educational experiments are designed and implemented. The analyses and disscussions about the results are given at the end of the chapter.
