| Objective:The purpose of the study was to exam relations between the rhythms of movement, heart rate and breathing during Tai Chi practice. We hypothesized that these relations will change with time while practicing 24 style Tai Chi from beginning to the end. We further hypothesized that these relations are different among people with different years of practice. Provide a scientific evidence of the importance of breathing in Taiji Practice for the agedMaterials and Methods:The experiments were carried out on 18 healthy male subjects, based on different length of practice years averagely divided into three groups:Beginners experienced and masters. We collected the data from the designed experiment to compare the differences among the three levels. The data included heart rate, breathing and movement frequency. The data processed by the programming SPSS13.0 and discussed with the processed data.Results:1) In the area of heart rates, Master Group had the highest rates and exercise intensity; heart rate increased from first to fifth quintile in a linear fashion.2) Knee movement rate followed a cubic trend with the highest point at the fourth quintile, which is about 3 cycles more than the first quintile. The linear trend was not observed in the movement rhythm. Master had the lowest rate and the Beginner had the highest rate.3) The three levels used the different breathing pattern, Master and Beginner Groups had the same S.D, which means that the wave property is smaller than Experience Group.4) The HR changes with time in a linear trend, but this linear trend was not observed in the two breathing related parameters and the movement rhythm.ConclusionThe HR changes with time in a linear trend, but this linear trend was not observed in the two breathing related parameters and the movement rhythm. Knee joint movement rate was positively correlated with heart rate, chest and abdominal movement rates, although no correlation was observed among the later three. The three levels used the different breathing pattern; Beginners are generally used the natural breathing. Masters are often used the abdominal breathing, Experienced are used the natural breathing and abdominal breathing... |
