Teaching activities depend on largely textbooks which are the basic carrier of teaching contents and which is the material base to achieve the goal of teaching. The development of textbooks has experienced the stage of from 'one program and one edition'to'one program and multiple-editions' and the reform of from'nation-revising'to'nation-approved' in China. Since the curriculum began to reform in 2001, many editions of Chinese textbooks have appeared, which not only gave the schools more chances to choose to raise the teaching quality, but also absorbed the attention in many fields about quality of textbooks.At the present, there have been 12 editions of primary school Chinese textbooks which had been approved and issued by National Middle and Primary School Textbooks Approving Committee. The contents, depth and the structure of each edition of the textbooks make much difference and have its own features. This thesis chose two editions of primary school Chinese textbooks-People Educational Press (PEP) and Jiangsu Educational Press (JEP) as objects, used the method of literatures study, comparison, contents analysis and interviews to explore the things in common and differences, and analyze the advantages and disadvantages in order to acquire the developing rules.This thesis has 5 chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, which presents the background, the objects of the study, recalls relevant literatures, analyzes the present conditions of the study, and puts out the main questions and methods of the study. The second chapter gives the edit idea of the textbook of PEP and JEP in detail, analyzes and compares both features and differences. By comparison, it indicates that the edit idea of Chinese curriculum reform has renewed, and the emphasis of the edited contents has been distinguished because of the experiences and levels of the editors. The third chapter presents the frame and structure of two editions of textbooks, analyzes and compares both features and differences. By comparison, it shows us that the frame and structure innovates and breaks through quickly, at the same time has its own personality and feature as well. The fourth chapter compares four systems of the two editions of textbooks in detail, such as example system, reading-aided system, knowledge system, practice system. By comparison from the level of text, the characters in common and personality are gained. The fifth chapter gives the two editions of textbooks innovations and further revised suggestions, which will give the schools benefit advice when they choose the textbooks, offer the reviser the references, help the teachers make use of the textbooks creatively, and also promote primary school Chinese textbooks to reform in future.
