It is a difficult task for teacher to teach students with learning difficulty in English. he thesis, basing on cooperative learning theories, probes into the effect of cooperative learning on students with learning difficulty in middle school English class, through an experiment of implementing cooperative learning.Firstly,the thesis makes an analysis of the cause of being students with learning difficulty. Then it also analyses the ways of changing learning difficulty and the status quo of its development both at home and abroad. The new middle school English curriculum reform calls for implement of cooperative learning in middle school English class.Finally, guided by cooperative learning strategy, an experiment to help the students with learning difficulty in English classroom is conducted.The experiment consists of forty students with English learning difficulty, who are in two parallel classes in Grade Six.In experimental class, cooperative learning is introduced to 20 students with English learning difficulty, while the others in control class are taught with traditional approach.Cooperative learning in English class includes four major aspects:namely, division of learning groups, setting-up of a cooperative goal for each group, division of labor as well as cooperation for group members, and establishment of an assessment system.The experiment lasts for six months with a series of shared activities and some specific cases studies on the part of both teachers and students.The data of the experiment are collected and analyzed by means of pretests, posttests and questionnaires. The result of the experiment shows that the cooperative learning on students with learning difficulty is effective and it also exerts a significant effect on students'strategies of cognition, regulation and communication.
