A Study On Problems, Causes And Strategies Of Higher Vocational Education Development In Shandong Province

Higher vocational education is not only an important part of higher education system but also an important part of vocational education system in China. As a type of higher education development, higher vocational education undertakes the mission of training the highly skilled people needed by the first line of production, construction, service and management and it has an irreplaceable role in accelerating the process of socialist modernization drive. In our country, the development of higher vocational education has a brief history with only 30 years comparing with that of higher education. Along with the popularization of higher education policy, higher vocational education has got a rapid development. It has occupied half part of higher education, cultivated a large number of highly competent and skilled people with applied talents and made great contributions for socialist modernization. However, in the development process of higher education, higher vocational education has always been in a weak position compared with general higher education and there is a common phenomenon scorning vocational education in the society. The rapid development in education scale of higher vocational education, to some extent, has exposed and sharpened the problems and conflicts on the quality of teaching which has led to huge competitive pressure to survive in higher vocational colleges.On the basis of the analysis and study on the current situation of Higher Vocational Education Development in Shandong Province, the present thesis took the development course of higher vocational education in Shandong Province as the background and made further research and analysis on the causes of existing problems and contradictions describing through the relevant data the existing problems and contradictions in the process of Higher Vocational Education in Shandong Province. With the actual development of higher vocational education in our country and borrowing ideas from the advanced experience on higher vocational education in developed countries, the study offered strategies and suggestions improving the development of higher vocational education in Shandong Province.
