Study On The Education Of College Students' Shame

During the past ten years, with rapid development of global economy, there are some social problems, such as the shame feeling lost, regardless of the glory and disgrace. Meanwhile, the study on sense of shame has attracted scholars'attention, and they began to do some research on this field. However, the sense of shame education, especially for the college students' shame characteristics and the problem on sense of shame education, has not attracted people's attention. This study is based on some related theories of college students' shame education. During the study, we used the methods of questionnaire, interview, etc. We have explored the current students' shame and the shame education status. According to the questionnaire and interviews we got the conclusion and put forward some methods or ways to do college students' shame education, including the contents and teaching methods, which can cultivate students' shame, promote their moral development, and improve the moral education, and eventually help students realize their own worth.This paper reviewed some domestic and international shame and related education, discussed the concept, the theories, characteristics and the ways how to deal with it, analyzed some problems on the study of the students'shame, and discussed the theoretical values of college students'shame education.From January to April, author has done the research in six universities, interviewed with eleven teachers, including five ideological and political education teachers, and selected 251 students in to do he questionnaire to reveal the characteristics of the current students'shame. Self-consciousness and negative events led the students feel shame. Moral character, sense of justice and the collective conscious are the three main factors. College student will feel shame easily when they meet the negative events on their country or families. Some students have problems on knowledge and practice, which don't connect with each other. When they feel shame, a lot of students will deal with it in a positive way, but many of them choose avoidance and concealment. Our society has been going on the transformation, and China has plunged into the globalization. So our society is facing the big challenge, that is, moral relativism. Especially in the era of the network, some college students confuse with the moral choices and judges. Moral education has not played the important role to improve the college students'shame level,and there are many factors which lead to students missing sense of shame. This paper analyzes the meanings of shame education from college students, schools and society, and then shows us the current situations of the shame education in higher schools. To cultivate the college students'shame awareness should be based on the sense of responsibility, sense of justice and truth, also should put the patriotic education and integrity education into consideration. At the same time, the education should connect practice with the ethical awareness, connect the experience on shame with rethinking, and connect model demonstration with self-education. The final target of shame education is to realize the college students'values.
