The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of traditional periodization (LP) and nonlinear periodization strength training (DUP) model on strength and power performance of Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) male players. There were 14 CBA players participated in this study who's average age were 22.4 and all of them have more than three years strength training experiences. Subjects were divided into two groups based on strength testing results. There were total 4 tests which were T1 pre training, T2 in fours weeks later, T3 in eight weeks later and T4 in twelve weeks later. Every test including 1RM bench press,1RM leg press at 45 degree, countermovement jump, seated chest medicine ball toss. There were significant differences (P<0.05) between T4 and T1 for 1RM bench press and countermovement jumps testing with LP and DUP group prospectively. Although, there was no difference between LP and DUP groups, the strength increment in DUP was higher than it is in LP (18%T4-T1 for LP; 22% T4-T1 for DUP). There were significantly differences within LP and DUP groups for leg press tests results (P<0.05). There was no significantly difference for the circumferences of arm and leg. The conclusion was that both LP and DUP model are effective to elicit significantly strength and power increment. Although there was not significantly difference between LP and DUP, DUP seems like more effective. Based on the result of this study, more variances of volume and intensity is recommended for the sake of increase muscle strength and power in professional basketball athletes populations.
