As a new content of, algorithm has recently drawn wide attentions from many specialists on education. In this paper, the author takes a survey on pre-service mathematics teachers' knowledge of algorithm by using questionnaire and interview. Combined with the SECI model and experiment, teaching plans of algorithm by pre-service mathematics teachers' peer-coaching have been researched. This investigation focuses on the following aspects such as concept definition and characters of algorithm, the basic knowledge of algorithm, history of algorithm, pseudo-code, typical project of algorithm, program chart, characteristic and difficulties of algorithm teaching, algorithm teaching design. From the survey the author obtains the following results:a. Understanding of algorithm. The subjects have not quite grasped the concept and characters of algorithm, even have some deviation or wrong. They know well of basic knowledge of algorithm and pseudo-code, but lack of attention on history of algorithm.b. Application of algorithm. The subjects are not expected to use program chart to solve problem but can read program chart fluently. They lack of understanding and research of typical project of algorithm.c. Viewpoints of teaching material's algorithm and teaching design. As pre-service mathematics teachers, the subjects can understand the difference between the algorithm in mathematics and computer science, and the relationship between algorithm teaching and ordinary mathematical problems teaching. Due to lack of teaching experience, they cannot grasp the difficulties of algorithm teaching. At last the experiment shows that under the guidance of the SECI model, pre-service mathematics teachers can design a characteristic teaching plan for themselves by peer-coaching.Some suggestions are given at the end of this paper.
