The study based on the theory of ecological development was about the comparison of cognitive development In Young Children Aged 3-4 between city and countryside. The study analyzed the differences of family environment between city and countryside from background of the family environment and specificity of family environment, and deeply investigated the relation between family environment and cognitive development.Firstly, the paper generalized the relation between family environment and cognitive development, and reviewed the affecting factors of family environment on cognitive development. Through analysis, researcher found that mostly domestic researchers used ANOVA, but lacking of MANOVA and Comprehensive Study. In order to better guide the family education, it was necessary to discuss the features of cognitive development in young children and it's relation with family environment. The study interviewed some parents and assessed the standard of cognitive development in young children aged 3-4. The results was as follows:First, the differences of cognitive development in young children aged 3-4 between city and countryside is evident, and the children from city was apparently better than the children from countryside except the memory; Second, the cognitive development of children was affected by background of the family environment such as parent's work and education, the economic standard, the number of child, the structure of home and so on, and by specificity of family environment such as the expectancy from parents, the interaction between parents and children, the fees of buying books and toys and so on. Third, the differences of family environment between city and countryside was great, and the input about children education from countryside was poorer than city; parents from both areas had high expectancy to the children in future education and work, but parents from countryside was eager to let children gain more knowledge; the conception of education from rural parents was a little newer than before, but the parental style lagged behind the conception, and the interaction of parent-child lagged behind that in urban.Researchers put forward suggestions based on the results above:First, strength the input about preschool education in countryside; Second, improve the parenting capacity through showing the knowledge of parenting. Third, expand the channels of gaining books. Fourth, play the instructive role of television; Fifth, family who had not only one child should increased the input to education, and parents and grandparents should educate coordinately. In the end of the paper, researcher respected the study, and put forward the shortcomings of the study.
