Nowadays, in order to response to the industrial development under the situation of economic globalization and to achieve the goal of being an innovative country, the demand for engineering practical talents has become increasingly prominent. These requirements promote the reform of engineering higher education in China. With the replacement of old teaching staff, the young teachers are gradually becoming the backbone to promote this reform in high institutions. However, the lack of engineering practice background of our young teachers in has seriously restricted the development of practical engineering education in China.This paper from the angle of the current situations of engineering young staff practical ability in College of Engineering and their causes to analyze the "academic research is more important than engineering practice "policy orientation and the problems such as the faculty composition is lack of diversity in Chinese engineering colleges and universities. Furthermore, from drawing lessons from the classic cases in the foster of young staff engineering practice ability in some countries with powerful engineering higher education, it suggests that the regulation reform of the engineering practical abilities cultivation among Chinese young professional staff in higher education institutions, as well as the establishment of the long-term mechanism could be implemented in four main aspects:recruit, training, evaluation and stimulation system. Finally, it shows the cases of two national model software colleges on the advanced regulation reform and effective solutions of some current problems about the engineering practical abilities cultivation among young professional staff. I hope that these cases could provide meaningful reference to other Institutes in China.
