To cancel the division of arts and science in high schools or not is a basic problem in our curriculum theory and practice. It was existed with the curriculum reform in 20th century of our country, and full of arguments. To solve this problem in modern China has special significance. It linked the ancient and modern societies as a bridge. On the other hand, the relationship between curriculum and culture is close. The fundamental aim of curriculum is to promote human development. But each person is special ones who rooted in the cultural environment. For these, the cultural factors are important to the division of arts and science. As a basic problem of curriculum reform history, to cancel the division of arts and science or not was caused in some cultural environment. Cultural factor has played an important role on this problem.Based on this, through the application of historical research method and literature method, based on the process of division of arts and science, discussed the cultural factors which influenced the division of arts and science. The paper is mainly composed of five parts as follows:The first part is instruction. Mainly introduce the origin and meaningfulness of the research and try to construct the basic analyze framework for the research.The second part mainly talks about the common cultural factors of curriculum reform. In this part, we point out that the curriculum reform is essence of cultural practice activities.The third part according to the history, divides the modern Chinese curriculum reform as three periods, and then combed the process of division of arts and science.The fourth part according to the analyze framework of the research, discusses the cultural factors that influenced the division of arts and science.The fifth part is mainly composed with conclusion and reflection. Based on the conclusion, we point out that the curriculum should keep the necessary tension between Chinese traditional culture and foreign modern culture.
