Cheerleading is a kind of new and attractive sport which has been pushed to a new level by Beijing Olympics and media propaganda and become an attention in the society and schools. The vigorous development of cheerleading in our country lead to urgent need of cheerleading talents, thus, how to cultivate related professionals becomes a problem demanding urgent solution. Curriculum is the main way and basic method of talents training in our high schools. As the preparation of curriculum, curriculum design is the core problem of school education. Therefore, in order to realize the goal of professional training in cheerleading, we should firstly study on the curriculum design of its special course. In this paper, expert interviews and questionnaire survey are mainly used to study the special course design of cheerleading in performance major in sports institution. The conclusions:(1) Three aspects promoting the cheerleading special course in physical education institution performance major in our country:social need for talents, development trend and development need of students.(2) Performance major in our physical institution is in possession of certain basic resource of students and teachers for cheerleading special course, but the current cultivation and training can not mee the need of students for cheerleading, which shows that setting up cheerleading special course in physical institution performance major needs urgent solution.(3) Currently, cheerleading special course of performance major in physical institution can take the following patterns:special course including both skill-cheerleading and dance-cheerleading, training basic skills comprehensively and systematically; training of representative team, meeting the needs of different students so as to further improve skills and cultivate talents. (4) The whole approach of curriculum design for cheerleading special course in physical institution performance major is:under the guidance of scientific outlook on development; based on the theory of Taylor principle; according to rules of cheerleading.(5) Curriculum goal of cheerleading special course in physical institution performance major:enable students to grasp the specialized theory of cheerleading comprehensively and systematically through study of basic theory, education and training theory, arrange theory and judge regulations; enable students master professional skills of cheerleading correctly and expertly and obtain certain motor skill through study of basic skills and comprehensive development of physical quality; cultivate different skills through teaching, training, performing and practical activities including judging and organizing play; develop hard-working and indomitable spirits of students so as to equip them with certain creative and cooperative ability.(6) Cheerleading special course in physical institution performance major is divided into two parts:theoretical course and practice course. Theoretical course includes:basic theory and safety of cheerleading, teaching methods of cheerleading, training methods of cheerleading, choreography of cheerleading, competition and rules of cheerleading, basic contents of cheerleading, music of cheerleading, brief introduction of cheerleading and basic term of cheerleading. Practice course includes:study of motor technique, cultivation of skills and training of physical quality.
