Higher vocational education is an integral part of higher education and has particular characteristics, typical educational positioning, students' different demands for sports, and expanding scale. Therefore, physical education, an important subject taught in universities cannot be ignored in higher vocational colleges. And owing to the unique development of female students, their lack of physical activities and the significant role they will be playing in the society, a special concern needs to be given to their attitudes, habits, and abilities of taking part in sports. As the transition between school and society, and the last period when students receive physical education, the college year is not only the optimal period for sports education, sports learning, the acquisition of sports habit and the initial formation of value of a life time sports, but also a period when students begin to participate, enjoy and benefit from lifelong physical activities. Therefore, an extensive research should be made on questions related to physical activities of female students in vocational and technical colleges, including the status quo, subjective orientations of doing sports, the gap between idealistic analysis and practice, and approaches to encourage college female students to participate in physical activity.Thus, this thesis is to give measures and proposals dealing with issues mentioned above by investigating and analyzing the status quo and the orientation of sports participation of female students in higher vocational colleges of Hunan, through studies on materials and references, interviews with experts, questionnaire surveys, statistics and contrastive analysis. Conclusions are as follows:1. Female students in higher vocational colleges of Hunan are fully aware of the importance and value of sports.2. Their perceptions on values of sports have become more diversified, not restricted to the benefits to physical health, but embracing more values such as recreational, economic and cultural values.3. Leisure activities of female students in higher vocational colleges of Hunan are also increasingly diversified but not unified; In the survey of female college students'ideal mode of leisure activities, sports is the most popular activity, showing that female students in higher vocational colleges of Hunan province tend to have positive mode of leisure and to focus on self-improvement.4. The motives of sports participation of female students in higher vocational colleges of Hunan are being pluralized and highly advanced.5. The sports participation of female students in higher vocational colleges of Hunan is gender-specific. (These students tend to participate in the net antagonist sports or non-antagonistic sports, physical activities involving one or two people, and sports that can showcase women's physical beauty and is not influenced by facilities) 6. In the survey of ideal exercise frequency, female students in higher vocational colleges of Hunan have a correct understanding towards the influence of exercise frequency on effects and they are enthusiastic on exercise. In the survey of sports that students want to participate in most under given conditions, the top 6 are sports with more fashion elements-body-building, outdoor sports, sports dancing, swimming, tennis and badminton.
