Map is one of the most effective carriers of geographical knowledge. Once students master the correct way of reading map information, it means that students get the key to the treasure-house of geographical knowledge. With the implementation of new curriculum reform, under the background of education for all-around development, how to read the diagrams correctly and efficiently has become a problem which must be confronted and resolved in modern geographical knowledge learning. Especially high school students and teachers have a higher requirement on how to correctly and efficiently read diagrams.Under the background of new curriculum, this research tries to grasp the most common and general things in reading diagrams from the aspects of theory and practice and abstract the exclusive diagrams reading model of senior high students, so as to provide some theoretical guide and implication for the teaching and learning of graph, to enrich the theory and practice of study of geographic education.In the aspect of theory, taking marxist epistemology and study theory as guidance, absorbing the useful component of both scheme theory in cognitive psychology and modeling theory in education, based on the literature data about geographical diagrams reading and studying, further defined the concept of geographical diagrams reading model, summarized the basic principles of geographical diagrams reading, analyzed the core components of geographical diagrams reading model, completed the theoretical research of geographical diagrams reading model, and finally put forward the basic types of senior high school students'geographical diagrams reading model which can mainly be divided into the individual and the collective diagrams reading model. Individual diagrams reading model mainly contains the text-chart model, the figure-text model, the figure-chart model, linkage model, circulation model and intuitive model; etc. The collective diagrams reading model consists of student-student model, thinking-accepting model, and the problem-discussion model.Practically, this study selected students from six classes in senior high school as subjects of survey and interview. In the survey of geographical diagrams reading model of senior high school students, this thesis first investigated the reading model of principle diagrams, statistical figure, section, and distribution figure; then the present situation of diagrams reading and understanding are surveyed and analyzed. Finally this paper presents the following conclusions: (1) improve the understanding and enhance the consciousness of geographical diagrams reading model.(2) optimize geographical diagrams reading and build a variety of diagrams reading model.(3) emphasize the two basic parts of diagrams reading model, and read diagrams creatively.(4) pay attention to the differences of students'collective diagrams reading model.
