Demonstration Courses Project came into being under the circumstance of the increased number of college students in China, the shortage of educational resource in universities, and the need for the improvement of the quality of higher education. It is represented by the national demonstration course, defined as a set of demonstration curriculum with the characteristics of owning first-class teachers, first-class teaching content, first-class teaching methodology, first-class teaching materials, and excellent method of education management. Demonstration course refers to the curriculum with distinctive features and outstanding teaching method. After years of practice, demonstration course has achieved remarkable accomplishment. However, there are still problems concerning the contradictions between the emphasis on assessment and the ignorance of sharing, between the emphasis on requirements and the ignorance of service, between the emphasis on the establishment of project and the ignorance of management. These problems should be solved in order to maintain the active role of demonstration course.This thesis studies all aspects in the construction of demonstration course with the methods of literature review, interviews, and case study:First, the author clarifies three theoretical bases concerning philosophy, management, education of demonstration course, and sorts out the development of demonstration course; Second, the author summarizes three characteristics of large scale, sustainable development, and public welfare; Moreover, the author analyses the main reasons ( the missing of aspects such as feedback aspect in the management of demonstration course, the lack of teaching of reflective knowledge, and the scrupulosity of intellectual property held by the owners of demonstration course ) leading to the above mentioned problems. In order to address this issue more effectively, the author selects Demonstration Courses of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine as an individual case. Through the analysis of the present situation of the construction of demonstration course, we aim to explore practical experience in the construction of demonstration course and to explore deficiencies that need our attention for more effective and feasible way of demonstration course construction.According to the problems existing in the construction of demonstration course, this thesis proposes three measures which are to clarify the guiding philosophy of demonstration course, to enhance policy support, and to reform supervision and incentive mechanism. What's more, it raises some specific measures to improve the curriculum from the macro and micro perspectives.
