A Relevant Research On Career Compromise And Aspiration Index Of College Students

Career decision-making is a big problem faced by college students. But during the process of career choice, there is always a gap between what we could get in reality and our idea image. So compromise will happen in this situation and it has great effect on career decision.The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between college students'career compromise and their aspiration index. Based on the previous studies of home and abroad, through the pilot experiment, this research is made using experiment and questionnaire survey to explore the characteristics of college students'career compromise and the relationship between the career compromise and the aspiration index in a Chinese sample of 121 college students.The results indicated as following:1) There is a partial support for Gottfredson's theory of career compromise under three degrees of compromise, and Chinese college students have their own characteristics, when compromise is needed, social prestige is always a prior consideration.2) When college students engaged in major compromise choose occupations, sex-type is more important for men.3) The intrinsic aspiration of college students is higher than extrinsic aspiration that has reached a significant level. There is a significant interaction on intrinsic aspiration due to their gender and grade. To be exact, the intrinsic aspiration of female undergraduates is higher than female graduates and male undergraduates; the intrinsic aspiration of male graduates is higher than female graduates.4) There is a significant interaction on aspiration due to their gender, grade and major. Especially exist in the students who studied liberal arts. To be exact, in all of the students that studied liberal arts, the intrinsic and extrinsic index of female undergraduates are higher than male undergraduates, the intrinsic and extrinsic index of male graduates are higher than male undergraduates, and the index of female undergraduates are higher than female graduates; the intrinsic index of male graduates is higher than female graduates. The intrinsic index of male graduates that studied liberal arts is higher than male graduates that studied science and technology.5) The students'intrinsic aspirations are closely related to their career interest when they engaging in minor compromise choose occupations; when they are engaged in moderate compromise, there is a significant positive correlation between extrinsic aspiration and social prestige.6) The female students'intrinsic aspirations are closely related to their career interests when they are engaged in minor compromise choose occupations; when the female students engaging in moderate compromise, their extrinsic aspiration are closely related to the social prestige. There is a significant positive correlation between extrinsic aspiration and social prestige when the graduates are engaged in moderate and major compromises.
