| In today’s dynamic environment, where employment pressures is getting severe, job seekers often struggle to find a job that meets their needs, and compromise appears to have become a common occurrence..Faced with the helpless reality,a certain degree of career compromise has become an unavoidable topic in career choice.Previous research has demonstrated that compromising one’s profession might have detrimental consequences, such as depression, lower well-being,proactive behavior, and reduced ability to innovate. However, career compromise is sometimes used as a roundabout strategy, which does not necessarily lead to the occurrence of negative events. Some scholars have pointed out that career compromise will prompt new employees to actively explore careers and have a positive impact. So how does individual compromise in career choice affect their subjective career success? Based on the above background, this study aims to explore the different effects of career compromise on subjective career success,as well as the internal mechanisms and boundary conditions that lead to such results.By sorting out and summarizing previous literature, this research examines the impact of professional compromise on subjective career success under various explanation mechanisms using the notion of person-environment matching and resource conservation. The construction proposes that for employees at different control points, there are dual paths of "career compromise-job crafting-subjective career success" and "career compromise-work disengagement-subjective career success".Through regression analysis and statistical test on the data of 234 two-phase matching questionnaires, the main conclusions of this paper are as follows:(1)For employees with a partial internal control personality, career compromise has a positive impact on job crafting, thereby positively affecting subjective career success;(2)For employees with external control personality, career compromise has a negative impact on subjective career success by having a positive impact on job disengagement;(3)For employees with different control point types, job crafting and work disengagement mediate between career compromise and subjective career success. The innovations of this study mainly include:(1)Taking career compromise as a starting point,it explores the different effects of career compromise on subjective career success from both positive and negative aspects, and further expands the research on the dual effects of career compromise.(2)By distinguishing different types of control points of employees, job crafting and job disengagement are introduced into the mechanism of the effect of career compromise on subjective career success, and the dual-path effect of the relationship between career compromise and subjective career success is constructed and tested. This mechanism gives a new perspective on the subjective career success of compromisers.Furthermore, the findings of this paper’s research have practical implications for management and individual employees.Individuals should realize that career compromise does not necessarily bring negative effects, and should actively reshape their jobs;managers should also guide employees who experience career compromise in a timely manner.,establish a positive professional outlook. |
