This article purports to investigate the function of outline-guiding approach, a new conception of mathematics teaching, in optimizing the structure of mathematics class for primary school student teachers, in balancing the guiding role of the teacher and the principal role of students, in keeping in line imparting knowledge and cultivating abilities. Through analyzing and evaluating the advantages and disadvantages of different teaching approaches. it demonstrates how this new approach come into being. In combination with a whole set of teaching innovation in mathematics class, this new approach is hoped to prove an applicable and effective teaching model. Four years before, the school where the present author teach had a teaching reform project which aimed at employing several teaching methods to optimize the structure of class. For some reasons, the project was not completed. I was one of the research staff of this project. I have been wery interested in reforming teaching methods and want to find out one effective teaching approach that has solid theoretical and practical foundation which can be applied to a large group of teachers and students. Once the person master this effective approach, he can smoothly apply this approach to teaching through internet and distant education, hater, I realize this approach showld combine and adapt -3- several well-known methods and provide it with teaching model and principle. With this in mind, I manage to produce this thesis in ths final form. The subject and experiental materials of this approach to the primary-school-teacher training rystem. However, it can apply to middle school math teading, I hope this approach can be put into wide pratrce. Five popular teaching approaches in china and abroad are examined in this paper and a comparative study is made as to their basic concept, general procedure and application scope. Hence we get the proper approach-outline-inspiration approach. ?The teacher should present the outline diagram in the basic trairming before class. He should creat certain situation to promote students according to the coures content, namely: question situation, association situaction, practice situation, interest situation, encouragemeat situation and creation situation. He should make it clear to the students what the task will be and guide them in mastering
