This paper traces the origin of thinking in images and the rough development course in our country. It points out that thinking in images, just as logical thinking, belongs to the rational phase of knowledge and sets forth the paralleled relation between them. The content of mathematical thinking in images, we deem, includes two closely條inked sections: graph image and schema image. It抯 characteristic lies in its vividness and latent logic. The basic forms of mathematical thinking in images are images, association and imagination. Then, we analyze the relation between thinking in images and mathematics study, and reach the conclusion that thinking in images can help the student better comprehend and memorize mathematical concepts. The function of thinking in images in solving mathematical problems are as followed: (1) representing function; (2) enlightening function; (3)sustaining function. Finally, based on the examination of the student抯 actual ability of thinking in images, this paper puts forwards some tactics to develop it. Namely, on one side we should reinforce the visual teaching, enriching student抯 mathematical idea; on the other side we should construct knowledge web, enriching student抯 cognitive structure.
