Under the policy of "developing nation by science and education ", the basic education is in reforming deeply in china. Quality oriented education developed very slowly, In view of this situation, with the experience of west countries which have reached much success through carrying out STS education, this paper point out that promoting STS education is the heart of carrying out quality oriented education on base of analyzing the target of STS education.I proposed some ideas, which are suitable for STS education in chemical teaching in senior middle school. First, in order to strengthen STS education, I analyze two kind of teaching materials which are "theory related practice "and "practice related theory". The paper suggests class teaching for STS education should be established specially. Second, for the reason of deficient in resources of course and teaching materials, the paper explores STS education resources related researching learning and comprehensive skill fostering. Third, based on the teaching bel iefof STS education, I proposed some STS class teaching models such as lecture, question ring, research and study by oneself and so on. Finally, the thesis point out that improving STS education is the prior condition of reaching developing target. Based on this point, I made assessments to students in five groups which are understanding concept, process of learning, application of knowledge, innovation ability and attitude to science.Two classes have been choosed to be samples to do experiments teaching. In one class, I taught chemi stry with STS knowledge and new teaching method, while, I taught with traditional teaching method in other class. The results of experience indicate that there is not obvious difference on understanding concept, there is much obvious difference on application of knowledge and attitude to science; there is some obvious difference on process of study and innovation ability. So, we should strengthen STS education for developing students' quality and skill.At last, according to situation, we suggest technology education is very important for quality-oriented education.
