Middle school education is an important part of the education in modern China. During the period of 1927-1937, the development of middle school education demanded that the government play the leading part. In this decade, with certain administrative power, the Nanjing National Government in some degree guided the modernization of middle school education. This article is composed of four parts: the first part introduces the development of law system and its significance to middle school education; the second part defines the perfection of curricular standard; the third part analyses the tendency to science of middle school education from differentaspects; the fourth part comes to a conclusion-the authorremarks upon the function and defects of middle school education and its revelation toward us in this period. The number of middle schools and its students increased evidently during this period; modern scientific knowledge became the body of teaching contents; based on China's practical condition and social needs, the educative ideas and manner of the West were applied to China's middle school education, so the modern capitalist system of education were set upin China's middle schools, and the pattern of middle school education were basically established. At the same time, due to the restrictions both subjective and objective, it was certain that the leading role played by the Nanjing National Government couldn't be counted as excellent.
