The reform and development in the past 20 years have actually influenced every aspect of China's social life. Meanwhile, the strategy of globalized open-up has interwoven China with the trend of world integration, thus making the social transform of the Chinese society an unchangeable fact. The transform renders great changes to take place in the fields, including continuing education, where the new is substituting the old, characterized by new things springing up and original disadvantages becoming apparent. This thesis attempts to observe the characteristics of the social transform period from the multiple points of view of politics, economy, culture and science and technology, so as to find out a set of applicable strategies which will help us grasp the opportunities, solve problems and promote the healthy development of continuing education. The thesis contains three parts:Part I. Concepts clarification. It is expected to establish a theoretical structure for the strategy research by way of defining the three basic concepts of social transform, social transform period and continuing education. There are a broad sense of the term social transform and a narrow one. In the thesis the former one is preferred, i.e. any forward leap of social forms, which include the comprehensive social changes in economy, politics and culture. Social transform period refers to a transitional period, in which the social form changes from one to another, as well as a historical period alternating from the old era to a new one. The one discussed here refers to the period of over 20 years from the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee to the present. Continuing education means various informal education, which is takenby those in-service personnel, who have graduated from university or who have equal certificates or equal professional technical post, to renew their knowledge or realize the harmonious development of society and individual. It is regarded as the highest level of adult education in the life-long education system, and an important measure to improve the adaptability and creativity of the professionals, and also an essential method of strengthening our overall national power.Part II. Reality analysis. In this part the thesis aims at finding out the development motivity for continuing education by studying the era background of the transform period and analyzing the influence of social transform period upon continuing education. The social transform of our country is characterized by the gradual establishment of market economy system, the changes of governmental functions, the perfection of the legal system, the approach of knowledge economy and the changes of value, etc. The above-mentioned factors are closely related and influence upon each other. Actually, the influence upon continuing education is usually co-effort of them.In the social transform period, the continuing education of our country faces both opportunities and challenges. The opportunities are that social transform provides it with broad social demands that favorable to enlarge the autonomy of educational bodies, to enhance the cognitive standard of operating education by law, and that it makes it possible to apply and generalize modern teaching means.On the other hand, continuing education is faced with a great quantity of challenges: the inadequate recognition of the importance of continuing education in society, the obvious lag of some traditional education concepts, the urgent need to adjust educational modes, to reform the curricula and to improve the managerial mechanism.Part III. Strategy research. This is the core of the thesis, in that, by advocating traditional concepts' change, and by discussing educational modes, talent cultivation circumstance, inner management and outerschooling system, the thesis puts forward some strategies to develop continuing education in social transform period.
