The opening society calls for persons of high quality . Chinese teaching materials play an increasingly important role in promoting persons' lingusitic competence , especially in promoting persons' expressing competence and communicative competence. Through looking back the construction and development of unit structure of Chinese textbook, the author makes an analysis of the demerits of the pattern for unit structure of the traditional textbook dominated by selected readings, holding that such pattern for unit structure leads to serious criticism of Chinese teaching by the end of the 20th century, for it can' t make students have a systematic and effective training in speech comprehension and expressing competence, failing to meet the need of the society for talents of high quality. It is a creative way to make best use of the merits and bypass the demerits of the old one, to make foreign things serve china. Based on the comparison made between Chinese textbook at all times and excel let foreign textbook, and on the author' s own thinking, the author puts forward a new pattern for the design for unit structure. That is to say, the author divides Chinese course into a course in training speech communicative competence and a course in literature and culture on condition that the design for courses is reformed. After that , two new patterns of units of different structures are born according to different semester' s teaching aims of those two courses . One is for ability梩raining , the other is for culture-inheriting. The new pattern for unit structure is opening and scientific one stressing creativeness and helping to teach. It not only inherits themerits of national education but also makes best use of the advantages of the design for foreign native textbook. It can promote students' practical speech communicative competence effectively and their native language' s qualities comprehensively, thus developing students' creative spirit. In short, It is a brand new pattern for unit structure of all-round educating functions.
