Based on the national and international teaching background, Research-based learning was carried out in No. 1 Middle School of Jinchuan Non-ferrous Company in Sept. 2001, so as to suit the teaching situation in China and promote quality education. We have achieved our goals after a year's experiment. All the teachers have become the key figures in carrying out the experiment successfully. It has also helped students reach their goals that were set at the very beginning. In addition, all the teachers are faced with austere challenges during the experiment. They have met with a lot of problems and had to deal with various changes. The traditional roles that they once played in the class teaching are changing gradually. So, it is necessary and essential that we should probe into the changes of teachers' roles in Research-based learning.Teachers' roles are changing as the exploring study is gradually being popularized. Teachers need to play various roles in their class teaching. To become knowledge initiators, they have to change their old tendency about knowledge teaching, but to make their classes lively and interesting for students to grasp basic knowledge and skills easily. To become promoters, they should cultivate students' learning abilities and lead them to live an active life as well. And above all, they should be their supporters whenever necessary. To become organizers, they should be good at organizing the whole process of Research-based learning and at the same time, help students to decide their own way of study. To become good guides, they ought to help students choose their questions for discussion, do research on the questions and then work out the problems with teachers' guidance. To become learners, they are required to 1 earn the teaching theories related to Research-based learning and grasp basic information tech and means of research. To become investigators, they should improve their abilities to do research during the exploring study. And, to become excellent collaborators, they should make best use of all the resources available in and out of school, the other teachers, parents, and so on.There is no doubt that teachers will meet with various problems to some extent if they want to seek those changes in their class teaching.such as the conception can'tcontent the objective require in Research-based learning, the knowledge store can't quarantee the develop of it, teaching time can't use and arrangement rationally, teaching ways can't fit the new learning way, the organization and management isn't perfect, the guiding evaluation has many problems to be solved, and so on.And they'll feel burdensome as well. So, in order to advance such changes, the following advice is useful. First, teachers must change their old way of teaching and be willing to carry out exploring study. Second, they need to change their teaching methods. Third, they should get a clear idea of Research-based learning. Fourth, they are required to lead students properly and help them to progress step by step. Fifth, class teaching can be made more formal and more teachers should be called on to join the research on Research-based learning. Sixth, teachers should put their heart into the teaching research, seventh, research on the teaching materials should be carried out more actively and thus, teachers can learn how to solve problems that appear in the period of Research-based learning. Finally, to develop the student's personality, we should make well in teaching estimate.
