This paper is mainly discussed by way of documentary research, investigation and communication. The paper that ties up the development in vocational secondary education and ;n agriculture in china, analyses the situation, distinguishing features and major problems of the setting-up of specialities, and raises some questions to be considered in agricultural secondary schools in Gansu.The thesis is made up of five parts.Part 1 describes the development in vocational secondary education. It distinguishes the definition between occupation and vocational education, and conveys the developing tendency in vocational education with the brief analysis of the developing process and the situation of vocational secondary education in China, and that of the international development phases.Part 2 introduces the social economic background of the development in agricultural secondary schools. The development in agriculture presents new requirements and opportunities for the setting-up of specialities in agricultural secondary schools with the analysis of the great changes in agricultural economy in our country, the developing tendency of modern agriculture and economy in the countryside in Gansu, and the strategic readjusting in the agricultural structure of production in future.Part 3 gives some theoretical foundations for the setting-up of specialities in agricultural secondary schools. By analyzing the definition, the function, the influential factors, the driving factors and types, and the developing tendency of the setting-up of specialities, it concludes some principles to be followed.Part 4 mainly discuses the present situation of the setting-up of specialities in agricultural secondary schools. On the basis of investigation and communication, it inquires some existing problems through diagrams concerning the situation and the characteristic of the setting-up of specialities.Part 5 gives thoughts to the setting-up of specialities in agricultural secondary schools in Gansu from several perspectives: balancing the government control and the autonomy of the schools, maintaining the organic combination between the advantage in its own field and the service in other lines; locating the training objectives of the specialities; making sure that the students will be continuously nourished and developed; actively training qualified techniciansneeded by the local people; establishing some key majors and widening majors with its characteristics. To solve the problems in the setting-up of specialities in agricultural secondary schools in garisu, this part provides come solutions in theory.
