| The repaid development of scientific technology and enhancement of productive forces make people's life more colorful. The information time, high competition and fast work rhythm bring lots of changes of people's values and life styles. The heightened productivity makes it possible that people own more and more leisure time. And accompanied by the improving of education level and high standard in culture requests, people are paying more and more attention to the value and functions of leisure sports. People hope to get the self-development and great satisfaction in mental life through the leisure sports activities. Leisure and leisure sport are gradually becoming important parts in people's life.But leisure sport is still a new subject in China. At present, there are very few studies in this field and the research level is lower than that of western. The complete system of study is not established yet. Therefore, to lay stress on the research on the relationship between leisure sport and the social development is becoming a serious question in such aspects as theory, practice and policy.American is a highly developed country, which has very good background and long history in leisure sport. Its research level is always on the top in the world. So its rich experience could be drawn on for our own development in Leisure Sport.The research methods of this article are document retrieval, statistics and study of comparative law. The contents of comparison are (1) administration system, (2) leisure sports education, (3) leisure sportsitems, (4) distribution of sports population and sports intensity, (5) fund resources and sports facilities, (6) sports consumption, (7) culture background, (8) developing tendency. The related conclusions and suggestions are also supplied in the last part of the article, which perhaps will be helpful for the development of Chinese Leisure Sport.
