As a knowledge, reading raises high attention of people. Teaching of reading is themost important thing in the teaching of Chinese, Therefore, grasping the teaching of readingmeans grasping the principal contradiction in the teaching of Chinese. Nowadays, comparingto other abilities in Chinese, reading ability of the primary school students is worse.whichbecomes the main factor of preventing their whole abilities in Chinese. By taking the studentsof Grade Five from three primary schools in Jiuquan city proper as the targets, this (.hesis usestesting method, observing method, visiting and talking method, material object analyzingmethod and so on, to investigate the present situation of the reading ability of Grade Fivestudents in Jiuquan city proper, analyses the related reasons, and provides correlativecountermeasures.Through investigation and research, it is found that the whole levels of the reading ability of the primary school students in Jiuquan city proper are lower. There are some main reasons:1. The factor of teaching: the teaching of reading is short of character of where and consistence. During the teaching in the classroom, paying more attention to analyze and understanding, but less attention to accumulating and utilizing: the guiding position of the teacher is obvious, but the principal role of the students is weak, Paying more attention to master the knowledge, but less attention to passing on the method of studying, and less amount of reading.2. The factor of non-intelligence: The students have no positive motive in reading, and are not cultivated the good habits of reading. Their reading would is weak. Another problem is that their reading attention in the classroom is not concentrated.3. The factor of environment: the atmosphere of reading in the school campus is not thick; the reading environment in the society is not good.Aiming at the present situation the author provided some related countermeasures:setting up the whole view of the teaching of reading; Paying attention to the students' desiringin reading ; arousing the students' interest in reading ; Teaching students the methods andskills in reading ; Paying attention to cultivate the habit of reading ; Strengthening instructionof reading after class ; returning the positive right of reading to the students; and encouragingthe primary school students to study their reading materials. Furthermore, the countermeasureabsorbs successful experiences from some excellent teachers and combines the research of target classes in curriculum reform of various schools, so it has stronger feasibility.
