In this age of digitization, traditional teaching models are unable to meet the demands of e-Learning requirements. Information Technology has brought a significant change in our society and our learning needs. The widespread usage of technology in education field has furthered educational innovation and development. In general, e-Learning has five major dimensions - lecturing, individual teaching, group discussion, self-learning, and collaborative learning. Among these, self-learning is an emerging dimension of e-Learning which is fostering learner's cognitive ability. The learners choose appropriate Internet technologies as supporting tools to match their learning objectives. They evolve their learning process by adapting alternatives and thus achieve significant knowledge. In this research after explicating the concept of self-learning and their characteristics, I have analyzed the feasibility of Internet based self-learning models. Based on extant teaching theories, learning theories, educational psychology, and student-centered concepts, I proposed the key design ideas, strategies, and structural framework for the self-learning model. Further I explored its functional realization by using computers, multimedia and Internet as supporting technologies. Finally, based on observations from real life case studies, I propose several questions that need further research focus.
