The text system design of geography textbooks of middle school (TSDGTMS) is mainly studied in this thesis. The study is carried out according to some new ideas about curriculum reform of basic education, directed by modern curriculum theories, instructing theories, textbook theories and so on. At the same time, the study is also carried out by concluding experiences of TSDGTMS of China since liberation, shortcoming of the text system of geography textbooks at present, advantage of the text system of new geography textbooks, comparing the text system of geography textbooks of China Continent with the one of America, Japan, Germany, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tai Wan and so on, and incorporating myself instructing experiences. The content includes seven parts: general summary of the text system of geography textbooks, theoretical research on TSDGTMS, investigation and analysis research on TSDGTMS, Comparative research on TSDGTMS, the principles of TSDGTMS, the tactics of TSDGTMS, the case of TSDGTMS.Text system, which stores and conveys geography instructing message through the form of verbal and digital symbol, is the expressing method of geography textbooks. Text system is diverse and can be sorted at different angle. Defining and sorting the text system is beneficial to understand better its functions. Reasonable text system is advantageous for students to activate their learning, master systematic geography basic knowledge and technique, undergo the course of studying and scientistcal exploring, and improve their moods, attitudes and values.Research on TSDGTMS should be directed and backed by theories, such as geography science, geography instructing theories, curriculum theories, educational psychology, systematic ideology, and propaganda science. By investigating and analyzing text system of geography textbooks, studying thedevelopment of it, we can summarize experiences and shortcoming of TSDGTMS of China. Comparative research on the text system of geography textbooks of America, Japan, Germany, Singapore, Hong Kong and Tai Wan, which is unique, we can better it more directly.Based on above analysis, the elementary principles of TSDGTMS are indicated in this thesis. They include some modern conception of curriculum and textbook which should be shown and the elementary regulations which we should comply with when designing textbooks. Moreover, many concrete tactics are put forward on the basis of the kind of text system.Then, abiding by above modern conception of curriculum and textbook, complying with the element regulations, a text is designed, which is regarded as practical works.Finally, some shortcomings of this study are indicated, and the orientation and emphasis of text system research in the future are put forward : we should notice and strengthen research on sociology, and let it our director when designing text system. We should conclude advantage and experiences of subject textbooks concerned with geography, such as politics, history, physics, chemistry, biology and so on. We should probe the most valuable knowledge system of geography textbooks by integrating students' psychology, the geographic development, and social request.
