Mental health education is a new thing in China. Its good development requires penetrating research on a series of relative issues. The status and functions of mental health education in moral education in colleges is one of the important issues.This paper argues that mental health education is an institutional cultivating activity, which aims at ensuring, promoting and developing mental health and sound personality of undergraduates effectively, and results from the integration of psychological guidance, psychological training, psychological counseling, psychological guidance and psychotherapy. Mental health education of undergraduates is one of the major tasks of modern higher education, and constitutes a special subsystem and the base of moral education in colleges. It has two functions: psychological training and moral education. The former is essential and the latter is derivative. The integration of mental health education and whole college education requires that mental health education should base on psychology and face to morality. As the conclusion of the research, the last chapter of the paper probes the practical conditions of the functions of mental health education of undergraduates.
