| From a perspective of China's university education development and reform, subject construction is an effective measure in pushing the whole level of university improvement. At present, China's teachers are challenged by the basic educational reform and teachers' professionalization. "Reform" and "change" have become the development tendency of normal university education. Since subject construction is the important ground of university teaching and scientific research, and the impetus source of university sustainable development, how to make subject construction play a key role in the normal university reform and development becomes one of the important aims of the present subject construction research. Based upon the analysis of the present condition of normal university construction against the background of university educational reform, this thesis, by the method of literature analysis, attempts to observe the position, contents and characteristics, and main measures of normal university subject construction. The paper falls into 5 parts:Part One The connotation of subject construction and its function in the normal university reform and development are expounded. Subject construction is a complex and systematic project. Since it plays a leading role, subject construction can help improve the talented and their academic research proficiency, form university characteristics and advantages, heighten the school sustainable development ability and key competing power, and realize the leap development of the university. However, the setting of contents is the first task of subject construction. To emphasize the content research theoretically helps to establish the subject construction direction and practically does good to analyze the present features and problems of subject construction and helps to look for solutions to problems and conquer the blind tendency in this construction.Part Two The contents of subject construction are introduced. The contents of subject construction should be set according to the teaching aims and tasks - teaching and scientific research of the university. As a systematic project, subject construction passes through the whole process of teaching and scientific research, and it has different consequences with each links of them, so the basic contents of the subject construction are formed. The contents of subject construction mainly include: the setting of subject direction, the construction of academic teams, the construction of research base, the construction ofacademic environment, and postgraduate education. Among the contents, the setting of academic direction is the base, the selection of academic leading people and the construction of subject ladder-shaped teams are the key point, the research base is the dependence, scientific research is the carrier; academic environment is the safeguard; and the nourishment of the advanced talent people is the embodiment of subject level.Part Three The characteristics of normal university subject construction are discussed. Since the founding of People's Republic of China, especially in the 1980s, China's normal universities have made great achievements in subject construction. The subject sorts have been completed and characterized with the multiply subject tendency; the educational science is the traditional and advantageous subject; art and basic science have a good foundation; the applicative subject started later, but in recent years has developed drastically and lots of academic achievements have also been made in some fields.Part Four The present author argues that the level of our normal university academic research is low and the condition of subject construction is poor. Especially, in the subject construction, the normal university lies in a disadvantage position in the competition with the comprehensive university, such as the low comprehensiveness and strict limits between different subjects.
