Content: With the deep research of the quality-oriented education,most of the educators increasingly realize the importance of the school education fostering the student's thinking ability.Today the classroom teaching is still the most basic form of the school education, And the student's thinking ability is fostered mainly in that way. So the investigation to develop the thinking ability in the course of classroom teaching naturally becomes the main direction of the education reform. The article sets out from the history teaching of senior high school. And it is based on the study concerning the teaching theories and experiments and combines the teaching theories and experiments and combines the characteristics of the new history textbooks of the senior high school to do first research in training the student's history thinking ability.The article is divided into four parts to elaborate the research process and results of the topic.Part I The article expands the definition of "Background" according to (source of phraseology) and (sea of phraseology) and also accurately defines "the history background". It also analyzes the essential elements and basic characteristics of the conception .So we can explicit the category of the study. This part lays foundation for the research of the topic.Part II The relation between the history background and history thinking ability.This part goes deep into the relation between the history background and the concrete history ability from the angle of the headspring of the student' t history thinking ability.This part goes deep into the relation between the history background and the history thinking ability from the angle the concrete history affairs, It hints that the history background is the headspring of the student's history thinking ability. At the same time it elaborates the history background teaching from the characteristics of the history course and three steps to expand the student's thinking ability.Part IV The research on history background ability to expand thestudent's history thinking ability.This part draws lessons from the, method of education science research and is based on my teaching experiment, It uses cases and is verified by the data from experiment. Buttoning up the history background is a valid way to develop and expand the student's history thinking ability.In a word, to button up the history background tightly is the break of developing and expanding the student's history thinking ability Strengthening the history background teaching is a key to develop the student's thinking ability.
