School sports are the most important stage of lifelong physical training. Not only does it serves as a link between past and future but also it trains students in consciousness, habits and abilities of lifelong sports and lays a good foundation for their sticking to physical training after they finish school. Physical education is an important means of realizing school sports. P. E. can be divided into two parts—visible one and hidden. Visible sports course is the basis of realizing the aims of this subject and the hidden one is a useful supplement to the former. Besides, the hidden one can arouse students' motivation to study. Only two parts are combined can the integrative function of school sports be realized. This thesis focuses on research into some material and spiritual cultural factors that affect urban secondary schools in Henan Province through the investigation and analysis of the present situation of the hidden P.E. curriculum in these schools. The research is on the base of the review of study that has been done on this subject beforehand and methods of documentary investigation and study, question asking, mathematical statistics and logical analysis, etc. have been employed. The material cultural factors concerning sports at school include sports facilities, time and space And the spiritual factors contain kinds of personal relationships forming during sports activities, systematic or non-systematic sports culture forming in different classes, teachers' quality and teaching action, leading style and the leaders' attitude towards P. E. etc. The following are the questions about material cultural factors that exist in Henan Province. A big part of sports fields and facilities fail to meet the needs even want badly. Besides, the kinds of sports equipment are not various and the current is not enough and its quality cannot come up to certain standards. Moreover, in most schools the sizes of classes are rather big, and the arrangement of P.E. time is not reasonable and scientific enough. Similarly, there are some questions that exist in spiritual culture. For example, the relationship between the teacher and students is not very harmonious during sports teaching. And the exchange among students is more or less blocked. The sports competition is not quite systematic. Furthermore, sportsmanship has not formed in some schools and a number of teachers of P.E. fail to maintain a sound relationship between recognition and its implementation of teaching atmosphere. In addition, most schools do not conduct propaganda very well and quite a few ones even do not propagandize at all. In practical teaching, such phenomena do exist that some capable students are highly looked forward to and vice versa. Some improper words and deeds and habits of teachers have a bad effect on students. What's more, teachers of physical education do not do very well in helping students solve ideological and psychological problems and in becoming students' good teachers and helpful friends etc. Finally, on the basis of the analysis of some hidden P.E. curriculum factors and interrelated problems in some urban secondary schools of Henan Province, the author of this thesis put forward her own opinions and some constructive countermeasures.
