Humanistic education is put forward because humanistic qualities of contemporary university students in China is declining. Cultivating students' humanistic spirits is the core of humanistic education, and consummating students' personality is its ultimate goal. Therefore, humanistic education isn't equal to humanities education, and it isn't a new way of moral education, too. Based on existing investigations about the status of students' culture qualities, the paper considers that humanistic education should attach great important to promoting of humanistic spirits."Humanistic spirits" has various meanings. As a result, there are different understandings. So the paper proposes the precondition of cultivating students' humanistic spirits is the basic connotation of humanistic spirits. Although humanistic spirits has different meanings in different history phases, its common theme is to give publicity to humanity. Nowadays humanistic spirits embodies pursuit of consummating human beings, and opposes asceticism and materialism. Thus, the key connotation of humanistic spirits is to transcend materialism, money worship and sciencism.There are various factors that lead to the difficulty in cultivating students' humanistic spirits. The paper analyzes these factors: the forming characteristics of humanistic spirits, the teaching methods of humanistic education, teachers' factor, students' factor, and social factor. The paper presents in details as follows: The difficulty in cultivating students' humanistic spirits is implementing of humanism in practice. It is difficult to innovate new teaching methods, seep humanism in speciality courses, and exert students' principal role in humanistic education. And implementing humanistic education is lacking in strong support from social circumstances. On the basis of above statements, the paper gives four suggestions to cultivating students' humanistic spirits. Namely, the first is to strengthen establishing relative systems and optimize social circumstances in order to construct good social atmosphere for humanistic education. The second is to enhance teachers' education attainments, transform traditional education conceptions, and have cognizance of the importance of humanistic education. The third is to construct "spirit scene" in campus for forming a profound humanistic atmosphere. The forth is to inspire students' inner spirit demands with more social activities.
