A Study On "People First" Spirit In University's Moral Work

The Third Plenary Session of the 16th Party Central Committee of the Party regarded "People First"as an important principle of the scientific development view and it was written into the plenary session, which has great directive significance to the reform and development of educational undertaking of our country. It is a brand-new subject that is worth studying and exploring how moral workers of the university reach the spiritual implementation that "People First"in the concrete moral work. There was the rudiment of humanism in ancient Greek philosophy; the thinkers in the Renaissance acknowledged the value of people and required individual character liberation; modern thinkers combined the theory of people and the natural view of materialism together with the affirmation of people's rational cognitive ability; the ideological trend of modern western humanism is surmounting to western philosophy, fully paying attention to the further investigation of people's inner world. Marx pointed out: People is the total of all social relationship. People is both means and purpose. Proceeding from this classical philosophy proposition, he proposed the thought of "People First", whose basic interior core fully concerned people's entity, dynamic role and creativity. Marx's thought of "People First", which is greatly different from humanism, is a scientific view of educational philosophy that is not only a theoretical problem but also a practical one, bearing important moral value. After the mankind entered the 21st century, the whole world has changed enormously, which directly assaults university's moral work of our country. The traditional moral goal lays particular stress on the directionality and consistency, its contents are outmoded and rigescent and its moral course has ignored the need of the subject. This makes us realize further that it is urgent to carry out the spirit of "People First"in university's moral education and that we must establish the moral view of "People First", which is Marxist theoretical requirement of "People's Question"and a need of realistic moral, reflecting the historical mission of advanced education, university spirit and the regularity of moral. "People First"spirit, as the essence and core of view of scientific development, has its own scientific intension and concrete content in university's moral education. It emphasizes people's development, demands to fully realize a student's subject status in moral education, and stresses the respect to a student's individual character development. It also concerns both a student's generality and his individual character difference so as to make him develop in an all-round way, fully and freely, when individual character development is based on generality. At the same time, a new-type teacher-student relationship with interdynamic and equality must be established, a student's subject position and a teacher's leading role being combined. The individualization of moral education, as the idea of moral education in the new period, indicates that people closely reexamine the value function of moral education and correctly assure with great efforts the relations between moral education and people's development and social development, etc.. Moral individualization aims at promoting a student's fine individual character. The consistency of individualized education, the goal of "People First"moral education in a university in the new period and the quality-oriented education undoubtedly shows that individualized educational view is a challenge to traditional university's moral education and offers a rare opportunity for the new development of university's moral work in the new period. It can be said that individualized education is the need of development era, the one of one's own development and the one of moral education's own development. In order to completely change the backward situation of the traditional moral work in universities and practically fulfil "People First"spirit, we must accomplish the following several points: 1. Change the idea of moral education. Change the spoon-feed model into a democratic analyzing type, the intelligence and moral education separating type into an overall quality type, the traditional sealing type into a modern open style and the objective moral education into a subjective one. 2. Adjust the goal of moral education. A multi-level three-dimensional and multi-dimensional moral education goal should be set up according to a student's individual characteristics. 3. Improve the mode of moral education. Abandon the spoon-feeding method, stress the practical results, accomplish the knowing and doing unifiedly and realize the tansition from "Managing"to "Helping". 4. Upgrade the contents of moral education. Strengthen such education as ideal and faith, atheism, situation policy, morals, psychology, etc.. 5. Expand the channel of moral education. Run through "People First"spirit to each link in teaching, management, campus culture, social work, etc.. In this way, we could fully develop a student's individual character and promote people's overall development.
