With the great waves of migrating in China since 1980s, more and more ethnic minorities population, especially in the form of family, have been moving into cities. And most of these people are at lower strata of the society, so if their children can get higher social status by accepting school education? This is a problem that is worth being researched on. This research is a case study on a family of the Miaos. By using the theory of Bourdieu's genetic structuralism, suggestions have been brought forward on the basis of describing the educational resources functioning situation of the Miao floating people and analyzing the causes behind it.The main body of the essay includes the presentation of the objective structure of the family educational resources of the Miao floating population, the analysis of the functioning process of the family education resources of the Miao floating population, the concerned research results and the reflection about the research methods.The research has reaching the following conclusion:1) Compared with the emigrating places, it is easier for the children from the Miao floating family to get cultural capital from their surroundings;2) Compared with the immigrating places, the children from the Miao floating family are living in disadvantageous educational situation, especially on the following aspects: The family educational resources of the Miao floating people have bad influence on the children's opportunities of going school. During the school education, the problems in the family and school lead the children to inequality. The gender concept that male should have higher status than female makes the Miao girls' rights of accepting education invaded.Through analyzing, the causes of the disadvantageous education situation of the Miao floating children are as follows: The transformation of the social system has influenced the opportunities of accepting education and the formation of the educational values of the Miao parents. The institutional education has bad effects on the Miao children's education. The unequal distribution of educational resources limits the developing opportunities of the Miao floating children. The functioning of the specific capitals of the Miao floating family is not good to their children's educational achievement.Finally, the suggestions of how to improve the disadvantageous educational situation of the children from the Miao floating family have been brought forward.
