| 1 PurposeThe former literatures relative research of the minority students' personality show some deficiencies in aspects of subjects, contents and methods. Firstly, some minorities, especially the Yi nationality, have been ignored; Secondly, the relationship research on minority students' personality and school work achievements have not been conducted systemically, not mention Yi and Han nationality; Finally, most researchers apply the western countries' personality questionnaires, so the results do not fit for our country tradition. As a result, this research applies SPS (compiled by Sa Yuying and Zhang Feng) to investigate the correlative relationship of personality and school work achievements between the Yi and Han nationality middle school students in countryside. So the purpose is to find their personality differences and the relationship between personality and school work achievements, to seek some suitable teaching methods to improve their school work performance and wholly cultivate their qualities.2 Method2.1 SubjectsThe subjects are students from Chuxiong city Shanjie junior middle school, seven classes and 106 samples in 1st grade, five classes and 85 samples in 2nd grade, and six classes 100 samples in 3rd grade. The whole samples include 137 Yi and 154 Han, 133 boys and 158 girls.2.2 Research ToolSPS is the tool, including 24 kinds of personality traits of five substructures.2.3 Treatment of the DatasAll the subjects' original scores have been set up database, then transformed into T criteria scores. Discipline grades of Chinese, math and English have also been transformedinto T criteria scores, then computed total scores as subjects' school work achievements. 3 Results3.1 Contrast between Yi and Han Students' PersonalityThis research applies MANOVA to reveal if independent variables, such as nationality, gender and grade have significant effect in 24 personality traits scores. The results indicate as following: Two nationality variables show significant effect in 7 traits; Grade has significant effect in 6 traits; Gender appears significant effect in 10 traits.3.2.1 Correlative Analysis between Students' Personality and School Work AchievementsPearson Correlative Analysis between 24 personality factors and exam T criteria scores reveals that both the Yi's and Han's personality and school work achievements appear some extent correlation.3.2.2 One-Way ANOVA Analysis in Terms of Three School Work Achievements in Different Students' PersonalityBefore ANOVA analysis, the same grade marks have been transformed into criteria scores, then Yi and Han students have been classed into three ranks. The results show different school work achievements with significant different in personality.3.2.3 Regression Analysis between Three School Work Achievements and Different Students' Personality iStepwise Regression Analysis reveals that for the Han students, significant effect factors of the achievements are dedication, continence, boldness and enterprising, and for the Yi students, factors become dedication, comprehension and responsibility.4 Discussion4.1 Nationalities Effects on Personality FactorsThere are many factors influencing Yi and Han nationality students' personality. But the most important factors are the living environments, such as Yi and Han different cultures, mode of production and life styles.4.2 Relationship between School Achievements and PersonalitySchool achievements and personality impact each other.4.3 Some Suggestions about How to Improve Students' School Work Achievements and Build Up Personality4.3.1 Correct educational ideas.4.3.2 Teach According to different nationalities and regions.4.3.3 Establish harmonious feeling between teachers and students.4.3.4 Bring advantage into play, help losers.5 conclusion1 There is significant difference between Yi and Han students' personality. As a whole, Han students' personality have the advantage of Yi students.2 Students' personality and school work achievements have abroad and significant correlation.3 Personality of the students of nicer school achievements are more favorable than those of the average school achievements, and Personality of the average school achievements are preferable to those of low school achievements.4 For the Han students, significant effect factors of the achievements are dedication, continence, boldness and enterprising, and for the Yi students, factors become dedication, comprehension and responsibility. |
