English learning is a very complicated process, not only is it affected by the characteristics of the language itself, but also by some other factors, among which learning motivation is the most worth attention. Cognitive psychologists divide motivation into intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Compared with the latter, the former is long-lasting and stronger, which should be laid more emphasis on. Intrinsic motivation refers to the motivation caused by the interest in learning itself. Interest exists in all mental activities so that it proves the most significant factor in learning knowledge and developing intelligence. Interest causes the desire to learn. The more interest the students show in learning, the more active they become and the better result they will get. If we can cultivate interest into a kind of psychological desire, it's easy to help them form a good habit of learning actively. As Elbert Einstein said, interest is the best teacher. Learning English is more difficult than one's native language, but if the students feel great interest in learning, they will overcome all kinds of difficulties and bury themselves in learning. The thesis focuses on the dialectical relations between the two motivations and the significance and principles of stimulus on the intrinsic motivation. Research shows during the course of senior teaching, teachers just emphasize the training for examinations in which exercises and filling-up teaching can be seen all through classes. As a result, students'decrease of interests and lack of learning motivation is revealed. Thus it's urgent to solve the teaching problems through changing the traditional teaching patterns, stressing the students'position, clarifying the learning purpose, arousing the students'activity and improving the learning efficiency. Based on research, the thesis analyzes the problems and the factors influencing the learning motivation in senior teaching. The following aspects should be taken into account in order to stimulate the students'intrinsic motivation in learning English. That is, changing the traditional teaching mode, stressing the students'position and leading the students to be able to self-learning; cultivating the students'intrinsic learning motivation, stressing on the point of learning is to applying; replacing the old ideas by perfecting teachers'personal quality and establishing new-typed inter-relations with the learners; mitigating the learners'anxiety by fading their errors and caring more about them; creating a relaxed and harmonious classroom atmosphere; and finally, teaching methods should be flexible and full of attractions.
