| To the trainees, activities such as "survival training camp" , "survival training in the open country " and "survival summer camp" can train them to have the sense of honor of community, to be cooperative and to face the challenges courageously , so these activities are becoming more and more popular. However, people always have superficial understandings to survival education, they do not master the spirit of survival education . This leads us to make clear what on earth the survival education is, what the values are and how the values can be realized.Although the research on survival education starts a little late in China, it developes fast. Many books about it are published in China, such as "survival education in America ", "Learn to survive in China" . Jiangsu province set a task about survival education during the ninth—five—years period. These researches emphasize on how the students protect themselves and escape in case of danger, so they are interesting, but they neglect the nature of survival education and are not theoretical.From the connection between education and people's survival of different periods, this article investigates the evolution of survival education, summarizes that survival education is chosen by history, as a step further, this article seeks its theory support from philosophy, education and psychology, and on this basis, establishes the concept and characteristics of survival education. This article focuses on that survival education can satisfy individual's needs, can promote the development of the society and moral education. The last part of this article expresses how to realize the value of survival education.This article consists of four parts:Part I: The evolution of survival education and its theory support. In primitive society , education is linked to people's survival instinctively. In slavery and feudal society , education began to separate from people's survival and it tends to be obvious. In capital society , education diverged from people's survival. In our socialist society , education harmonizes with people's survival again and it can find its theory support in philosophy ,. education , psychology.
