The concept of survival education firstly germinated in Rousseau’Emile, after that, theUNESCO put forward this concept officially in the report Learning to be: the World ofEducation Today and Tomorrow that we cannot try hard to learn once and for all any more,we need to lean lifelong to establish an evolving knowledge system—"learn to survive",andthis report becomes the programmatic document for the survival education. After that,Learning: the Treasure within also put it as the core of the "four main pillars". In recent years,with the development of the society, the low survival ability of the educated, and the lack ofsurvival education, the survival education is emphasized by the national scholars, and theydiscuss actively about how to implement the survival education to the educational experience.In China, although we have already done some studies about survival education, but it is stillnot systematic and it has not aroused enough attention. This thesis is based on this point, andit includes four parts.The first part is the theoretical basis of the thesis. Firstly, I define the connotation ofsurvival, survival education, and primary school students’ survival education, on this basis, Idescribe the contents of the survival education of primary students. Then I discuss thesignificance of primary students’ survival education, which include: the need for theall-around development of students, the basis for higher level survival education, thereflection of the essence of the quality education, the conditions for family harmony andsocial stability. At last, I elaborate the theoretical basis of the survival education, it consists ofthree parts: the philosophy of life, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, and sustainabledevelopment theory.The second part takes the example of the primary students’ survival education in Jiaodongarea; I analyze the present situations on the basis of questionnaires, and summarize the existedproblems, which include: improper position of target, ignorance of the unusual survivaleducation, lack of full time teachers, disvalue of practical experience, lack of effectiveness.The third part analyzes the reasons for the above problems in Jiaodong area, including:paying not enough attention, insufficient capital investment, lack of system security,unreasonable faculty structure.The fourth part put forward some measures to prove the primary students’ survivaleducation, which include: to change the educational concepts, to have clear goals for survival education, to develop curriculum resources for the primary students’ survival education, toenrich the educational contents, to emphasize on primary students’ practical experience insurvival education, to strengthen effectiveness, to increase capital investment, to strengthenthe training of the teachers for the primary school students’ survival education, to draw uplaws and regulations for the survival education, to perfect the supervision and the evaluationsystem.
