The New Syllabus of Chinese: Full-time Schooling of Compulsory Education, which was promulgated in 2001, advances a series of new ideas and principles such as "Avoid being meticulous about the systematizing of Chinese fundamentals," Enhance all-round the students qualities of Chinese. Initiate studying independently. Co-operating and researching, which have stimulated many discussions in the world of Chinese teaching. Therefore re-considering the teaching of Chinese fundamentals in the phase of middle school will help open our minds and better the process of teaching.This thesis consists of three parts. In part I the present author mainly elucidates her own understanding of Chinese fundamentals teaching in light of the New Syllabus. This part focuses on the cognition and comprehension of the New Syllabus which serve as the base of understanding Chinese fundamentals teaching. In Part II ,the author examines the last practice of Chinese fundamentals teaching, and re-orients the teaching of Chinese fundamentals through breaking the limitation of the traditional principles of Chinese fundamentals teaching. The author argues that this kind of orientation should include the following four aspects: lightening the teaching of Chinese fundamentals and the proper mechanical exercises so as to highlight the languagepractice;emphasizing the teaching of methods and tactics;aiming at promoting the students qualities of Chinese;changing Chinese teachers' role as an authority during the process of teaching.Part III is the essence of the thesis. It expounds a kind of new teaching manipulation, which is exemplified from three levels: first, tactically teaching "Index" and "Essays of Chinese Fundamentals" in Chinese textbooks;second, employing the technique of permeation to teach Chinese;third, broadening the knowledge of teachers' teaching.
