The mental health condition of undergraduates is more and more concerned by society. However, when we worry about it, we can't neglect the particularity of undergraduates. As older adolescents, the undergraduates lie in the stage of identity vs. identity confusion or the stage of Erikson's 'normative crisis'. This stage is critical for the formation of self identity. And the formation of self identity is the indicator of personality perfect and the best psychological function. But in China many researchers drew different conclusions about it.At first, we revised the Ego Identity Process Questionnaire(EIPQ), which is the most common use by many western researchers. A series of methods including group discussion, interview, and translating Chinese into English were held on the basis of this translation to decide the preliminary questionnaire. But after the test, reliability and validity of the questionnaire is not good. So we began to workout Ego Identity Process Questionnaire by ourselves in order to more accurately measure the identity of undergraduate. After a series of methods including interview, open questionnaire, group discussion, the preliminary questionnaire was decided. Then exploratory factor analysis and reliability analysis were conducted on the 243 recalled valid questionnaire. At last the fonnal questionnaire with 37 items was decided. Then the relationship between self identity and mental health conditions is explored. Confirmatory factor analysis and reliability analysis were conducted on the 486 recalled valid questionnaire. The result showed satisfied reliability and validity of the instrument. By difference and regression analysis we found that the undergraduates in the status of foreclosure and identity achievement are in the best mental health condition, and the moratorium students are by far worse. In addition, both exploration and commitment have an impact on mental health condition. With the improvement of exploration, the mental health condition becomes worse. But with the improvement of commitment, the mental condition becomes better. And what's more, exploration has differences on grade, major, and family;Commitment has differences on grade and major. Finally, attentions should be called that this research is not without limitations, for example, common method bias, causation test between variables. Future research may improve it by experimental control, longitudinal study or contain more methods.
