The Research On Strategy Of Training Students' Visual Literacy

Visual expression is one of the important methods of human beings' communication;especially after the multimedia and the Internet, which represented information technology,appeared. The 21st century mankind must have the capacity of thinking visual imagescritically and the ability of communication using images. Training the students' Visual literacyis a key issue of education. This article defined Visual literacy, which is based on lots of overseas theory on Visualliteracy, through analyzing the domain, content, scope, diverse definitions of Visual literacyand discriminated similar terminology. This article proposed targeted strategy from themicrocosmic realm and the macrocosmic realm, based on the connotation and extension ofVisual literacy. Aimed at the narrow Visual literacy training, this article presented to trainstudents the visual decoding and coding capability from the micro-perspective. For visualdecoding abilities, this article introduced cognitive psychology by which strategies will beoperable. For visual coding abilities, this article presented some strategies such as, using ofvisual language, using of graphics, imagining visual image and using of diverse visuallearning materials. Aimed at the broad Visual literacy training, this article presented todevelopment of visual learning resources and setting Visual literacy courses from themacro-perspective. For development of visual learning resources, this article mainly studiedon non-human visual resources, that is, developing education visual information, using ofvarious media and creating visual learning sites. For setting Visual literacy courses, the articleanalyzed the US Visual literacy research projects --VTS--and its inspiration to us. This articledidn't address the issues of cultural, artistic, aesthetic which are close to Visual literacy, butstudy how to train the students Visual literacy from the perspective of education.
