Physical experiments are not only a researching process but also an approach to know and comprehend the world. This research analyzed the characteristics and the present situation of the experimental teaching in senior physical experiment teaching and applied the inquiry-based teaching method to it. To foster their comprehensive ability and improve their interests in learning physics, the students are required to comprehend the physics concepts and master the physical knowledge through experiments by themselves.56 students in the experimental group of are taught by the inquiry-based teaching method, while the other 56 students in the control group are by the normal teaching method. Then the following aspects in the two groups are compared: the achievement of physics learning and physics experiment, the result of the assessment of comprehensive ability of physics experiment, the result of self-assessment of comprehensive ability in experiments and the interests of learning physicsThe result shows that: I. The inquiry-based teaching method improves the students' physics achievement. II. The inquiry-based teaching method improves the students' comprehensive ability. III. The teaching mode also enhances the students' interests in learning physics.
