The people-oriented teaching is a teaching concept that conforms to the people-oriented thought, and an interactive activity of teaching and learning, in which faculty follow the education regulations, and organize teaching activities according to students' development and actuality, and moreover fully stir students' enthusiasm to actively participate in the teaching activity, promoting students' overall development and obtaining good teaching results. The people-oriented teaching emphasizes the following aspects: students' overall development, students' inner need as the motive, students' subjective status and involvement in teaching, full freedom of teaching and studying, and effective teaching. It is imperative for faculty, who undertake the responsibility of teaching as the professional, to carry out the teaching activity on the basis of people-orientation. Because it is the requirement for adapting to contemporary education value, and for the inner attribute of teaching, for Mass Higher Education and improving teaching quality, and for faculty's self-development, taking teaching ethics and improving teaching level. Although people-oriented teaching is very important and necessary, at present there exist some serious problems in teaching. By the investigation and analysis of faculty's teaching and students' expectation to faculty in five universities in Hunan, we find some negative phenomena in teaching aim, teaching content, the organization of teaching process, teaching method, teaching evaluation and assessment, such as teacher-centeredness, test-orientation and textbook-centeredness . And university teachers pay no attention to students' need and their role in teaching, which is far from students' expectation. Most of the students don't think highly of faculty's teaching, and hold these teachers have no people-oriented teaching concept. According to the characteristics of people-oriented teaching and the current problems of faculty's teaching, if faculty want to perform their people-oriented teaching, they should change their teaching idea, and take the right way of teaching essence, teaching aim and occupational sense of responsibility; they should reasonably organize teaching process, modify teaching progress, organize students to participate and make full use of teaching intelligence to handle abrupt affairs; they should select teaching content in accordance with the students' requirements; they should build up humanized relation between teachers and students, change the viewpoint for the teachers and students, give students enough trust, care and respect, internalize their authority, and launch dialogues with students; they should reform teaching method, which should be dialogue-like, diverse and advanced; they should improve teaching assessment system, aiming to test the students' progress and shortcomings.
