Lawrence Kohlberg's theory of moral cognitive development has profound influences on Western moral education. Based on the moral education in china's universities ,this paper initiates a systematical and over-all analysis of this theory and outlines its essence in order to server for the present moral practice in china.The paper first introduces the historic origins of this thory from the philosophical, psychological and ethical practice perspectives, and then it will futher demonstrates the three perspectives in terms of moral practice in china's universities: philosophically, the paper stresses the assumptions of metaethicas and ethical prescriptivism;psychologically, the paper puts forwards some new insights to the impact of the Three-level-and-six-stage model of moral cognitive development theory on china;in moral practice, the author first introduces the method of Moral-Dilemmas-Disscusion and then exposes the more mature method of just-community.The present author concludes the paper by proposing some personal suggestions to the construction of moral education and the practice of moral innovation in china's universities.
