Teachers'professional identity means that a teacher accepts the profession from the bottom of heart, appraise the profession from lots of aspects positively. On the basis of understanding the present conditions of teachers' professional development and their feelings and attitudes to the profession, the study of teachers' professional identity can offer reference for making teacher's policy, provide foundation to manage faculties and make teachers' management policy for schools. While realizing the purpose mentioned above , the systematical research on this field can also impel youth teacher to know himself ,introspect himself and orient himself correctly, therefore to scrutinize his professional attitude and find the meaning of the job. Of course, there is another important purpose of the study, that is, in order to enable teachers to devote themselves to their work with greater enthusiasm, we hope the society will pay close attention to the growth of youth teacher, will give the rational expectations to youth teacher .The point of the study is to understand the present conditions of youth teachers' professional identity in small city. The study takes the question-and-answer investigation as a main part, aside by talking, visiting and so on. We chose about 300 teachers in 14 middle schools from 5 small cities in HuNan Province to do the investigation. The results are the following: (l)As a whole, teachers identity their profession basically. (2)There exists obvious difference in teachers'gender in identification with professional meaning, professional characters, colleagues, students and working rewards. (3)There exists obvious difference between teachers from suburbs and teachers from towns in the identification with all aspects except professional abilities and professional characters. (4) There existsobvious difference in teachers'age in identification with leader, working rewards and working conditions.(5)There exists obvious difference in teachers' schooling in identification with professional meaning, leader, colleagues, students and working rewards, working conditions and sense of belonging . (6) There exists obvious difference in teachers' profession post in identification with professional meaning. (7) There exists obvious difference between teachers in charge of class and ordinary teachers in identification with profession meaning, leader, working rewards, working conditions. (8) There exists obvious difference between teachers in key middle schools and teachers in ordinary schools in identification with working conditions.According to the results, this article discussed such questions about the general feature of youth teachers' professional identity in middle schools, the teachers' gender feature, the feature of teachers from suburbs and teachers from towns, the teachers' age feature, the teachers' schooling feature, the teachers in charge of class and ordinary teachers feature, the feature of teachers from key middle schools and teachers from ordinary middle schools, and so on. What's more, around three aspects, such as form the good atmosphere of "respecting teachers and valuing education" in the society , take shape "Human-oriented" Environment inside the school and teachers should develop and improve constantly by themselves, several pieces of advice on improving the levels of youth teacher's professional identity were presented.
