As the new educational reform is being put in use, students' ways of studying should be changed accordingly. Every middle school chemistry teacher is now faced with the problem about how to foster their students' consciousness of asking questions and advance the change of their studying methods. At present, there is a lot of research on how to ask questions as a teacher, but there is a little about how to foster students' consciousness of asking questions and guide them to do so. As a result, this text is about some primary research I've done into the present tendency of asking question in class, the factors affecting students' ability to ask question by means of consulting materials, questionnaires, symposiums, case investigations and so on, which is intended to change the traditional teaching mode, boost student' ability to study chemistry by themselves, as well as their initiative and creativity.The text is trying to explore how to foster students' consciousness of asking questions in chemistry classes. The whole text is divided into four parts. The first part, after introducing a survey If some existing problems and the consciousness of asking questions, puts its emphasis on the analysis of the advantages and positive meanings If fostering students' consciousness of asking questions in chemistry classes. In the second part, it is pointed out that one of the biggest limitations in chemistry teaching is people's not taking the consciousness of asking questions seriously. Besides that, what factors lead to the dim consciousness is analyzed at length. In the third part, I put forward some important ways to foster students' consciousness of asking questions, including some of my attempts in my teaching. The last part introduces some puzzling points about how to foster students' consciousness of asking questions.
