Students Affairs Administration (SAA) in colleges is of great significance in college management. With the establishment of Socialistic Market Economy and execution of a series of reforms in higher education, the SAA in China faces many new challenges. To cope with these challenges, SAA in China changes its strategies and turns up some developmental trends. In a word, it becomes more and more similar to the SAA in America. America, as the outstanding country in both higher education and market mechanism, has attained fruitful theoretical achievement and practical experience in its SAA. In order to improve the SAA in China, the author attempts to compare the real state of SAA in China with that in America from three perspectives and then make an in-depth analysis into the causes for the differences between the SAA in two countries. Suggestions are made in the closing pages of the thesis. The main body of this thesis consists of three parts:Part One(Chapter I , II and III) compares the SAA in China and America from three perspectives: (a) the philosophy and purpose of management; (b) the system and mechanism of management; (c)the contents and means of management.Part Two(Chapter IV) , entitled with "the analysis of the gaps between SAA in China and America", explores the causes for China's backwards in SAA from three perspectives: (a) the national cultural traditions; (b) the educational administrative systems; (c) the higher education itself.Part Three(Chapter V) proposes several solutions and suggestions as to how to improve the SAA in China on the basis of Part Two: (a) changing the educational and administrative philosophy, and executing "student-based" philosophy and purpose; (b) promoting the reform in educational administrative system, and creating a system and mechanism in student affairs administration; (c) improving the student affairs management, and strengthening some service programs; (d) building the professional working team in SAA, and proceeding its professional development.
