The national spirit is the powerful cord to unite a nation, the spiritual pillar on which a nation depends for survival and growth and the driving force to inspire people to dedicate themselves to the prosperity of their country. Therefore, promoting and nurturing the national spirit is very significant in strengthening the cohesive force, fighting capacity and competitiveness of the Chinese nation. In addition, it is also an indispensable force in establishing a well-off society and constructing the socialism with Chinese characteristics. The adolescent are the future of the country and the hope of the nation, thus, promoting and nurturing national spirit among the adolescent is the high demand of carrying forward the Chinese national spirit from generation to generation. It is also the strategic choice in establishing a firm position for the Chinese nation in a world of competitive nations. At present, the task of promoting and nurturing the national spirit rests heavily and solely on the course of politics. Undoubtedly, it is an absolutely proper choice in applying the instructive effects of ideology and politics teaching. However, due to the insufficiency in contents and the nature of this course, its deficiencies can be seen in the politicized aim, theorized contents and monotonous methods. And these deficiencies can be minimized or overcome by combining politicsteaching with the course of history. Since history lessons can provide students with rich and convincing facts, specific images and thus easy to be accepted by them. Consequently, combining the instructive effects of both politics and history courses is an effective approach to promote and nurture the national spirit.
